Radical Student Union
A new organization has started on the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) campus, and it looks to correct some misconceptions people have about certain political groups. The Radical Student Union is a student organization on campus that meets whenever their busy members can find the time to get together. Many of the members of this new group are active students on campus who have political ideologies that are not necessarily traditional. Edwin Robles, a member of Phi Kappa Tau and president of the UIS FC strives to educate the public on the different views on the political spectrum. "People think radical is being crazy, being, I guess an anarchist, people don't even understand what anarchist means. But being a radical student means you want to grab the problem by the roots" says Robles. The Radical Student Union looks to show people what options are out there for people. Following a controversial chalk statement being found on campus, the Radical Student Union gathered to go out and chalk positive messages to show that just because you are an anarchist does not mean you want to burn everything down. The Radical Student Union will continue to educate, grow, and provide positivity for the UIS campus.
