Illinois asks for 3 Billion Dollars from the Federal Government
Clint DeRoze
A committee on state mental healthcare held a public forum with Illinois citizens earlier this morning to get feedback on the 115 Medicaid Waiver.
The proposal would give the state access to 3 billion dollars in federal funding and would go to mental health programs across Illinois.
Representatives of multiple mental health and law enforcement agencies attended todays forum to give their input on the waiver.
The process for getting the 115 Medicaid Waiver approved has already started, but lawmakers say that they don't expect the money before the end of the year.

Gateway to India
Byron Lewis
Byron Lewis
Over the past ten years the University of Illinois Springfield added several key buildings and art pieces on campus. But that is not all that has changed. During that time Information Technology grew to the third largest major on campus and is drawing students from around the world.
A recent visit to an IT classroom illustrated this point. Of the forty students in the class, 96 percent of them were of Indian descent. UIS admissions data also shows that since 2008, international enrollment increased from two hundred to over one thousand students.
With below average tuition rates and above average salaries for IT graduates, UIS may continue to enroll more international students in the future.

Love Trumps Hate
Remel HoskinsStudents marvel at the chalk expressions that grace the sidewalks of the University of Illinois Springfield campus. On September 11th the night before, students felt targeted by the chalk markings of Trump supporters outside the most visible grounds on campus. Many student groups formed to take a stand, first by taking to Facebook expressing their outrage towards comments such as “Build the Wall” and “Vote Trump Never Hilary”. Students decided to express their own views proclaiming, “Hate speech is intolerable” and “Love Trumps Hate.”
Shakespeare Joins UIS
Barbara HughesWorkers are gearing up for the unveiling of Shakespeare in the Garden. Tucked away behind the Brookens Library, the Fred J. Patton Park will soon be filled with the flowers and reference quotes from the plays of William Shakespeare. Students, faculty, and Springfield residents will be able to admire the works done by the poet himself and also enjoy taking a stroll through the past while coming across sights along the way, which includes the fountain, a waterfall, and maybe even some geese. The garden will be open to the public this Thursday at 1:30pm.
