Weapon related assault continues to plague the streets of Springfield, often ending in homicide. Memorials tell a story of loved ones lost, as the number of weapon related assaults continues to rise. Crime stats show weapon related assaults up one-hundred incidents compared to last year. Latest victim, 17 near the intersection of 17th and Pine, memorial since removed. June’s victim memorial still maintained. Memorials become a constant reminder of a communities’ desperate cry for ways to help combat weapon related assaults.
